Apostrophe

Welcome to the first entry into our Skin Diary series! This series will dive into the skincare routines and products of our Apostrophe team (and hopefully beyond!). We are beginning with Pia Marquez, our Head of Growth. As a busy manager in the Bay Area, she's all about balance, whether that means work/life, diet, or skincare. Read on to learn how she keeps her combination skin looking its best!

Age: 31

Skin type: Combination (skewed to oily).

Skin concerns: Premature wrinkles, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation from acne scars.

Lifestyle: I try to maintain a healthy eating schedule, but I am not afraid of indulging in pizza and macaroni & cheese. I work out about four times a week with a mixture of Orangetheory Fitness and Lagree Pilates. Since I consider myself a “sweat-er,” I am diligent about taking showers and washing my face after I workout. I also try to travel as often as my work and budget allows. When traveling, I tend to not overpack clothes, but skincare products. I try to keep my face moisturized as much as I can, and I may be that person who wears eye mask patches on long flights.

Location/climate/environmental concerns: I live in Oakland, CA which means temperate, sunny weather in the summer and rain in the winter.

Walk us through your routine - what are you targeting with each step? Honestly, I’m unsure what exactly each step of my routine does. I know the basics – a retinoid for wrinkles and skin turnover, vitamin C for brightening, etc. Over the years, I have experimented with different products and steps – this routine has been keeping my skin glowing and I’m not about to mess with a good thing.

Your approach to skincare: We know that everyone is unique, and skin is no different. My own skin has changed as I’ve aged. I used to not worry about pimples when I was younger, but adult acne is real. My approach to skincare is like most aspects of my life: learn what you can, apply what you can, rinse and repeat. And when times are particularly stressful, just throw a pimple patch on and grab that pint of ice cream - it’s all about balance.
