Gentle Cleanser

We want to make sure you fully understand your treatment.
Below outlines the directions, benefits, expectations, and suggestions for gentle cleansers.

Gentle cleansers are over-the-counter products that remove excess oil and dirt from the surface of your skin. Gentle cleansers are not the primary treatment for your acne, but cleansing your skin allows your medications to work more effectively.

Choosing a Gentle Cleanser:

Be sure to avoid any cleansers that contain additional acne medications (like benzoyl peroxide or salicyclic acid). Using medications not recommended by your dermatologist can lead to excessively dry and irritated skin. There are many gentle cleansers to choose from but here are a few of our favorites:

  1. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser
  2. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser
  3. Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Daily Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

Instructions:

Follow these steps to avoid irritation:

  • Splash your skin with lukewarm water.
  • Apply a liberal amount of your gentle cleanser.
  • Gently massage the cleanser into your skin, using your fingertips only.
  • Rinse the remaining cleanser off of your skin with lukewarm water.
  • Pat dry with a soft towel.

When to Wash Your Face:

  • Before you apply any topical acne treatment.
  • When you wake up and before you go to bed. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser at least twice a day.
  • After you exercise. If you can't get to a shower, wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove excess sweat and oil from your face.
